Add a Wetbar to Your Basement RemodelJune 27, 2018
If the only thing you’re using your basement for at the moment is for storage space, then you might want to invest in a basement remodel. A basement remodel can greatly improve the function of your basement as well as improve the overall value of your house. If you tend to entertain friends on a regular basis, then you might want to turn your basement into a secondary living space or entertainment area. If you decide to go this route, we recommend adding a wet bar.
What is a Wet Bar?
A wet bar is basically an area where you can store all of your alcohol, mixing utensils, and glasses. This allows you to have access to everything you need so that you can fix drinks within seconds. Without a wet bar, you would have to go to the kitchen and gather up items from your refrigerator, your pantry, your liquor cabinet and more. A wet bar makes things way more convenient and gives you the chance to socialize with your guests while you make their drinks.
Wet bars should be built in the area where you tend to entertain the most, which is why building a wet bar in your basement is a great idea if you plan on remodeling the area into an entertainment space.
Building Your Wet Bar
Most wet bars are either straight or L-shaped. However, you can choose to make your bar whatever shape you want it to be. If you want a unique look, you could go with a circular or elliptical shape as well. When it comes to choosing the material to build your wet bar out of, most wet bars are made from stainless steel or wood. Stainless steel is a good option if the basement space has a more modern feel, while wood fits more traditional designs better.
The type of features you implement in your wet bar will depend on your lifestyle and the lifestyle of your friends. For example, if you’re a wine drinker, you’ll want to have a wine fridge that keeps your wine at the proper temperature. If you’re a beer drinker, then you may want to consider having a kegerator installed. If you’re an avid fan of all types of alcohol, you may want even more storage space to hold your liquors, glasses, and mixing utensils.
Besides having plenty of storage space that meets your lifestyle needs, you’ll also want to have a few accessories for your wet bar, including chairs. This will allow guests to sit at your bar and converse with you while you fix their drinks. While barstools do help to create a pub-like atmosphere, you might want to consider taller chairs with backs and armrests. These tend to be much more comfortable and will help prevent guests from losing their balance and falling in the event that they enjoy themselves a little bit too much.
Once you’ve got your wet bar all planned out, don’t forget about the decor elements. You’ll want to add some decor to the walls, whether it’s a large mirror or a few pennants and pictures of your favorite sports teams, just to name a few examples.
If you’re planning on turning your basement into a room that can be used to entertain guests, then consider building a wet bar so that you don’t have to back and forth to your kitchen upstairs.
